Good news, my friend Terry has a cool wooden folding table that would be PERFECT for the knife throwing table.
It looks exactly like what is used by all the acts on knifethrower.com
Also, my friend James is in a photo class and is close with the guys at the cage, he said he should be able to get us a light kit.. but alas, we still dont know how to use the light meter. We gotta ask Arturo for another demonstration (with cameras) ...I'll bring my camera in to the meeting next thursday?

in particular THIS style of board looks like the easiest for us to make without any crazy cuts - unless we can find a ROUND piece of wood. Here is another shot of the same type of board where you can see it's actually built from 4 planks of wood (probably to make it thick enough so that the knives dont shred it).. plus Morrigan is hot.

Seeing this site made me think about our setup for the freakshow scene.. how can we make the
freaks look really freaky? I dunno how better to phrase that. But I'm worried the setup will be very
lackluster and almost boring without some way of really emphasizing the "freakiness" of it. Well, something for everyone to think about.

Anyway, Will.. could you post the questions I had written for Arturo in your sketchbook? (I think on the page
with the drawings of the set ideas) I wanna ask him a few things and it can't really wait till thursday.

I was thinking about the scenes we were working with for the final couple sections.. trying to find a way to work in the knife, his bed, and not make him seem too heroic.

sect9:
the farm scene with the dad and the wrecked living room. Ends with Adam running away.

sect10:
The running from sect9 is cut to running through the swamp (after he's escaped the carnival), while he's running he drops the knife
he used to escape in order to put this in a timeframe that it's after he's escaped.. also this foreshadows the later events.
We do the rest of section 10 as planned, have him laying in bed sort of pathetically near the end of ten.. his eye kind of widens and he notices
the knife thrower has all his knives on the table at the other end of the room, the thrower looks over at him and grins then turns his back to keep
talking to another carny.

sect11:
when sect11 hits in a side shot of Adam frantically jumping from his bed and scrambling to the knifethrower's table, grabs a knife and when people
finally notice he turns around and we have that shaky fending off scene. He cuts through the tarp and we have a little time to show him running again
(show the swamp), he finds that old shack and collapses in it.. then the background slices away back to his carnival resting place (looks very lonely).

Since we know him and since he knows where we live in case he needs to murder us
we could get a good rate on renting from him. ( a good rate is < $150 a day )

Man guys, on relistening to song2 with all the concepts we came up with I really got some great visuals.
The concepts we came up with are fucking perfect!! :)
I think it'd help to interview Larry, get the lyrics and find out what the song means to him and what he was thinking as he wrote it, it might help us iron out the details of the video.

Alright, sorry for the delay on this. My top 5:

1. Another Day - Thought provoking, puts me into a sort of mood/trance. Excellent for a heartfelt narrative. The chorus provides a great contrast from the intro and other parts of the song. Really dig it.

2. Don't Stop - Like the tempo and driving feel of the chorus. Great for an action packed video. But I agree with Will, a bit short.

3. Song2 - Visualize a dark narrative, could be very powerful.

4. Hi-Hat Song - Really liked this song live, am interested to hear a better recording.

5. Vampires

Here's my top 5 out of the ones we listened to:

1. "Strange Days" - This song exploded with visuals for me, from barren black and white 3D landscapes to slowed down live action and unusual narratives. Most of the narratives this song suggested to me involved a lot of cast members, though they were all in the background (the main character walks through his/her surrounding completely isolated from them.. I got him throwing trash into mail boxes and dogs getting hit by cars and then just getting up and walking away).

2. "We're not Vampires" - I like this song because it's fast and has such a black mood. Captures a lot of the darker brooding nature of Bracelet's music. Definitely could tell a great narrative, this song has the most emotion behind it musically - with 3 very strong mood changes. Some of the stuff I was picturing was a narrative involving a dark figure chasing a woman through the wet streets at night for the majority of the video, at the end he corners her in an alley and she pulls a gun on him shakily to defend herself. He keeps walking confidently towards her as she warns him to stop (the walking coincides perfectly with the slowdown at the end of the song), he gets right up to her and leans forward, then kisses the barrel of the gun, then she fires (in sync with the scream Larry does at the end of the recording). I like the metaphors in the lyrics of this song, "did you think your love would keep me alive" - very cool.. the way vampires fall in love with someone and kill them to keep their love eternal. I dunno, maybe I just read too much Anne Rice. It's a really good length also.

3. "Don't ever stop" - This song would be PERFECT for motion graphics, it's relatively fast, catchy, has a few mood changes. But it's short and cuts off very suddenly. I really couldn't see us telling a narrative with this one, even though it's got a good emotional backing for one, especially with the lyrics "and I smile, as we leave it all behind".

4. Song2 - This is a good song, I especially like the guitar pause and chorus in the live version.. seems like the chorus was changed from the one on the demo. I woulda put this one above Dont Ever Stop but it's got a similar feel to Vampires, it's a more angsty song than vampires, which could be good or bad.. Bracelet has a certain frailty to their sound that I think we should try and capture. Here's what I saw - A ragged-looking guy wakes up and slams his alarm clock (it's been ringing for a while) and grabs a gun out of his dresser, he rips the eviction notices off his door and hauls ass out of his shithole apartment, he runs down the street putting on a suit and tie, runs by a hot dog stand and steals some food, he's obviously in a hurry (this goes on for the first half of the song), he gets into an office building using a fake ID and sneaks by a lot of people, makes it to the top floor and sneaks into what looks like a very important corporate meeting with some bigwig CEOs, he sits down at an empty seat as the head of the table nods gravely, dominantly. These guys are practically controlling the world. As the main suit gets up to explain some figures on the board the main character fiddles with his gun nervously and draws his gun sharply to fire at the head of the table while his back is turned. A closeup of his gun firing and the main character falls. Then cut to the whole table on their feet, all pointing discharged guns squarely at the assassin. They one by one sit down, the leader turns around and business commences as if nothing had happened.

5. Hihat Song - I love the intro to this song. It gives me basically the same feeling as Vampires and song2 but with less emotion (cept at the intro of course). I got more visualizations of slow water splashing on the street, alleyways, guns, etc..

I'm gonna turn out the lights tonight and listen to all the candidate songs.. see which ones inspire the best imagry.
I'm also gonna send our schedule and blog to Chris since he seems to be the only one besides Aaron who's an internet junkie.

The band was talking about using "Don't Ever Stop" for the video, but I agree with Will - it's too short unless we wanna do 100% motion graphics,
you never know.. we could always do some haunting 3D animation, I could see quick
cell shaded shapes rushing around like in that one winamp visualization with the stretched bubbles.

Here are my top 5 choices for which Bracelet song to use:

1. Song2 (unrecorded version): I really like this song. It was hard to choose between this one and We're Not Vampires. (3:26)
2. We're Not Vampires (unrecorded version): Has a variety of mood changes and interesting driving guitar parts. Vampires. (3:21)
3. Another Day: Actually my favorite and would have been higher, but it seems the band has progressed into more intricate instrumentalism. This song is a little more lengthy than most of the other songs, allowing more time for a narrative which I feel this song strongly suggests. (4:08)
4. Don't Stop: Very catchy, but the song is a little too short. (2:12)
5. Hihat Song: Seems pretty solid. Would like to hear a better recording. (4:32)
